And just like that…it’s February 2022! Time is going by so quickly at the moment, so it important to slow down, take stock, and look forward at what is to come. The past few years have been tumultuous at best, and downright apocalyptic at worst. It often feels like life as we knew it is changed forever. Thanks to all this upheaval, it is pretty certain that we will see some big changes in the way people approach weddings in 2022.

Pandemic weddings were characterised by small guest lists, video links, bespoke elopements, and registry office chic. Many couples took a homespun approach, with back yard celebrations and socially distanced receptions in their local pub. Fast forward to now and the restrictions are lifting, spring is on its way, and the forecast is bright! So what does this mean for weddings?

Go Big or Go Home

Elopements are out, and excess is in. Gone are the days where you can expect 80% of wedding invitations to be declined. Weddings in 2022 will never be short of guests, since everyone is desperate for a party! After all that time locked inside and restricted, it is no wonder that people are keen to experience some joy.

If you are planning your wedding and do not want to blow the budget, it is best to bear this in mind when sending out your invites. Better to cut the list early on then to end up bumping people!

Dress to Impress

Cottagecore weddings have had their day in the sun, but as we are looking forward to weddings in 2022 it looks as if black tie is back in a big way. This goes for guests as well as the bride and groom.

For fashion inspiration look to Bridgerton, The Great Gatsby, and even the MET Gala. We have seen such a surge of maximalist, individualistic fashion trends thanks to our increasing online presence during the pandemic, it is definitely time to capitalise on everyone’s urge to dress up.

You could even go the whole way and make your wedding a themed event. We will definitely be seeing more themed weddings in 2022, so hop on the trend early to ensure you aren’t repeating someone else’s wedding concept. Some phenomenal wedding themes we have seen so far include a Wes Anderson wedding, Gatsby of course, the secret garden, and even carnival.

Destination Weddings

After all this time landlocked to the UK, it is no wonder that many couple are looking to say their “I dos” abroad this year. You can expect plenty of destination weddings in 2022, so definitely get bikini shopping asap.

While bigger parties are looking to be the preferred choice for couples in the coming year, we predict that people set on eloping will do so abroad.

Wedding Weekends

Why have one party when you can have two, or three? The post-pandemic excess won’t stop at guest lists. Many couples are choosing to celebrate their nuptials with a wedding weekend, including a rehearsal dinner, wedding day, and farewell brunch. This is such a fun way to get the most out of seeing all of your friends and family, and guarantees that your wedding will be one to remember.

Sustainability

Despite themes of excess, the sustainable message is firmly in the front of our minds when wedding planning. There are so many small changes you can make while wedding planning to ensure your event is kinder to the environment! These include things like virtual save the dates and RSVPs, dried flowers instead of fresh, more plant based meal options, and a rented gown.

We are also seeing a big step away from wedding favours and gift bags. There is something so wasteful about candles/placemats/hip flasks with your wedding monogram on, as it is unlikely every guest will treasure the gift beyond the day. Edible favours are the best idea for a treat guaranteed not to be wasted.

What are you looking forward to the most in 2022?
