If you are set to marry a special someone, it’s probably not news to you just how demanding the process of planning a wedding can be.

Nonetheless, there are various ‘little things’ that, as a groom, you could benefit from doing relatively early lest you only remember them at the last minute and consequently have to rush them. So, you should…

Select a suit in line with the wedding’s style

Tuxedo expert Christina Steinbrenner advises in a Glamour article: “For a traditional, more formal event, a classic tuxedo with a notch, shawl, or peak lapel is ideal.”

For weddings of a less traditional slant, “shades of grey are hugely popular. Destination or beach weddings call for a lighter grey, tan, or even jacketless tuxedo.”

Don’t forget the accessories

As for exactly what these accessories should be, that’s pretty much up to you. However, you could be pleasantly surprised what a difference it makes when you add, say, a nicely folded pocket square or colourful, funky-looking socks.

Get a haircut about a week before the wedding

The timing of the haircut is important because, if you leave it until the day before the wedding, your hair could be left looking a little too short in all the wedding photos.

You need to give that hair some time to grow out, though this isn’t to say that you can’t have a little trim on the morning before you get hitched.

Put on some aftershave

This is something else you can benefit from doing on the morning of the big day. MensXP insists: “Your skin needs protection post a shave. How to offer that: with an aftershave.” However, aftershave doesn’t just protect bare skin; it can also give you an alluring scent.

Exactly what that scent is will depend on the specific aftershave. Hence, you should seriously consider a wide range of men’s aftershave products before deciding which of them to apply just ahead of your wedding.

Get enough sleep in the nights running up to the wedding

How much do we mean by ‘enough’? In a Marriage.com article, relationship writer Rachael Pace points out that a minimum of “seven to nine hours of sleep per night is recommended”. Hence, she urges you to avoid “late-night movies and irregular schedules”.

Look after your health as well

You can do this by drinking plenty of water and, if you have a smoking habit, possibly abandoning it for a while.

Naturally, your diet can contribute significantly to your health — and that’s why an intake of “fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and lean meat”, as Pace advocates, can work out well for you. The same can be said of working out, though you should stick to doing so in moderation.

Leave little love notes for your future spouse to see

Where exactly should those notes be left? Well, where you know your partner is likely to find them. These love notes could be displayed as post-its and chalkboard doodles, not to mention slips of paper held in place by fridge magnets.
