If you are getting ready to pop the question, there are a few things to consider before you get down on one knee. If you are looking to get engaged to the love of your life, then here are some tips to take into account to ensure things run as smoothly as possible.

Discuss

Before you propose, you should make sure that you are aware of your partner’s preferences. Of course, proposals are usually a surprise but it is important to know what kind of engagement ring they want (there are likely more than you think!) and how they would like to be proposed to.

A public proposal would be a dream come true for some but could be a nightmare for others. This is why it is key to discuss when, where and how your other half would like to be proposed to. You don’t have to be obvious with these discussions, but it is always worth knowing your partner’s preferences at risk of causing them any embarrassment or added stress.

Plan

While spontaneous proposals can be romantic, it could look like you haven’t taken the time to think about what you are doing or come off slightly flat. Making your partner feel special is one of the goals of a proposal, so you can hold onto the ring until the time is right, but you should put some thought into how you will pop the question.

Avoid copying the proposal that one of your friends has made, even if it is successful, and instead, make a plan that is specific to your partner.

Make it meaningful

Even if you aren’t the emotional type, a proposal is a perfect time to make a memorable, meaningful experience that you and your partner won’t ever forget. Here are some things you could consider to make your proposal sentimental:

  • Consider a location that is special to you such as your first date or your first kiss.
  • Plan a trip to somewhere you have always wanted to go together but try not to make your intentions too obvious at risk of spoiling the surprise.
  • If you both want your friends and family involved, then organise a get-together or plan for them to surprise you while you are doing an activity together and you can propose in front of the crowd.

Capture the moment

A hidden photographer is a brilliant way to capture the special moment without making it obvious to your other half. Hiring a photographer to take pictures will ensure that you have some amazing photos to share with friends and family when you are ready to announce the big news.

If you are proposing in private, then you could set up a camera to take pictures or record the moment so that you have something to look back on.

Start celebrating

After all this planning, hopefully, they will say yes! From here you may want to celebrate the news with an engagement party so invite the people who mean the most to you and enjoy!
