If you have never been to Italy before, you may not understand why so many celebrities decide to get married in this country, instead of their own. But once you visit regions like Tuscany, Puglia or Sicily, you won’t want to get married anywhere else. Here are a few famous couples that tied the knot there.

The Land of Fashion, Good Food and Beautiful Nature

Italy is a country that you could visit for months without getting tired of it. The history of the country goes all the way back to the Roman Empire, and it has left sites to see, that only this country possesses. It is true of Rome, of course, and its region – Lazio. After all, where else can you visit churches where you get to see a part of Jesus crib or the chains of St. Peter’s? Monuments that remind us how the occident was built right there and still directly from its ancient culture.

But if you go even deeper, you will find that it has been the witness to so many civilisations, especially on the island of Sicily, where everyone that led the ancient world stopped by, at some point, leaving important traces behind, especially the Greeks and the Arabs. Touring the country, you will find so many potential wedding Venues in Italy, that you won’t know which one to chose. For now, here is a look at some of the celebrities that tied the knot in Italy.

George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin

Venice, Italy

Before the two of them got together, George Clooney had already been a regular, around the magnificent lakes of Northern Italy. His love for the country and its people is known by everyone who knows George on a personal level or reads about him regularly. There is no doubt that when the subject of marriage came up, he suggested this country. In the end, they both said yes to each other in a luxury resort in Venice, which is also in the North of Italy. That was back in 2014, and we are happy to report that the lovebirds are still together.

Francois-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek

A Frenchman and a Mexican woman getting hitched in Italy. That shows you how much attraction this country has on people around the world. To be fair, there is an important link between the French businessman and this wonderful country. In 2011, PPR (Pinault’s company), joined with the Gucci Group, a major fashion player from Italy. However, there were never any doubts for the actress and the mogul, about holding their wedding anywhere else in the world. Finally, they got married in Venice as well, with friends and family, in 2009 (legal celebration in Paris, France). It is yet another couple that is still going strong.

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka

Perugia, Italy
Perugia, Italy

Let’s end this article on an inclusive note. Italy was also the choice for the gay couple made of Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka, when they decided to legalize their relationship. Contrary to the previous two, they chose Perugia, which is the capital of Umbria, a little north of Lazio (Rome). Elton John performed at their wedding, which was filled with other celebrities. They are still together, as well.
